Data breaches

How do I know if I’m affected?
You may see reports online that a company with access to your customer details has experienced a data breach.
Find out if you've been affected by contacting the organisation using their official website or social media channels. Don't use the links or contact details in any messages you have been sent. The organisation should be able to confirm if a breach has actually occurred, how you're affected and what else you need to do.
You should also be alert for suspicious messages after a breach has occurred, as cyber criminals may try to take advantage of it. Your bank or other official organisations will never ask you for personal information or banking details via email.
What actions should I take?
Check your online accounts to check if there has been any unauthorised activity. Things to look out for include not being able to log into your accounts, or messages or notifications that you don't recognise sent from your account.
If you suspect one of your accounts has been fraudulently accessed, refer to actions to take to recover a hacked account.
